Even though we dust our shutters weekly, spring is a great time to use a cleaner (or soap and water) to really clean your shutters or blinds on the windows.It gets rid of that little dark pile of dirt that sits in the corner. I clean the corners with a cotton swab and it helps so much (you can use a crevice tool, but I’ve found a cotton swab works just as well).

  • I clean the corners of the windows because this is where the dirt really hides.
  • I find that a squeegee works very well for our windows.
  • I then wash the window sills and each of the windows (inside and out).
  • For our windows, I take the screens out and wash them.
  • I find that a good all-purpose cleaner works well, too.
  • You can also wipe your kitchen cabinet doors with a clean cloth or a microfiber cloth (especially if they are painted).
  • Once the inside is dry, I put back anything that I’ve removed. I clean one cabinet at a time by removing everything that is inside, scrubbing them inside & out, and adding a fresh coat of wood oil.
  • I also clean the cabinets every spring.
  • Wash the wood floors very well every few weeks, and then you can do a quick wash in between.

    Sweep the sofa (I’ve never tried this tip, but I’ve heard sprinkling baking soda on before you vacuum it works well).Wipe down the ceiling fans with a damp cloth.

  • You may want to do this “deep cleaning” several times a year, but spring is a great time to get started.
